This lyrical solo allows the performer to show of the beauty of their tone and musical phrasing. The middle section is at a faster tempo before the melody returns in an expanded ending.

This piece is comprised of four movements of "Pops"-style tunes. Every movement presents numerous technical and rhythmic challenges, including frequent large intervals up to an octave and fast chromatic figures.

*Broughton - Suspect Folktunes

Suspect Folktunes is the most accessible of the solos by Bruce Broughton on this list because the meter is consistent throughout each movement, the rhythms do not contain many syncopations or tuplets, and the tessitura is predominantly on the staff. The five short movements each portray a character or scene and contain some chromaticism.

Busser - Andante et Scherzo

Andante et Scherzo requires efficiency and endurance, because the second half of the piece has the highest tessitura. The Scherzo is in 7/4, which is consistently divided into 3/4 + 4/4. This solo also requires clarity of articulation above the staff. Parts available for trumpet in Bb or C.

Busser - Variations in Db

This piece presents the theme and variations in a variety of time signatures, such as 3/2, 5/4, and 12/8. Each variation uses different techniques such as leaps within arpeggios, scale patterns, and multiple tonguing. It also provides the opportunity for the performer to learn French musical terms.
