TEACHING

Mission:
To create an inclusive, student-centered learning environment and deliver instruction that gives every student the support, flexibility, and agency to grow as both an artist and a person.

By offering instruction in trumpet as well as music theory/aural skills, I aim to foster all aspects of musicianship instead of focusing solely on instrument-specific technique. I love to work with students of all ages, from young children to adults. I have been teaching for over seven years and maintain a studio of both local and virtual students. In trumpet lessons, a student can expect to learn fundamental techniques, musical phrasing, and age-appropriate music theory, aural skills, and music history. Additionally, special emphasis is placed on the social aspects of music and its relevance in society.  I am also a certified Suzuki Trumpet teacher and look forward to expanding my Suzuki studio.

I firmly believe that pedagogy should not take a one-size-fits-all approach. One of my favorite aspects of teaching is building relationships with each student and getting to know them, their passions, and the unique journey that they are on. Everyone has different backgrounds and learning preferences, and I love creating new ways to explain and demonstrate concepts so that each individual can understand and succeed. I also help students build positive habits/routines, implement a practice schedule, and set realistic goals. I am especially passionate about helping students with learning disabilities and ADHD learn to recognize and harness their unique strengths. I am fully invested in each student I teach and love to celebrate success, no matter how small.
