
Scarlatti - Sonata No. 17

Sonata No. 17 was originally composed for keyboard and was later transcribed for trumpet and piano. It contains octave intervals, fast scale and arpeggio patterns, little rest. This is a great solo for learning some common Baroque ornaments, as there are many notated in this piece instead of improvised.

Senee - Concertino

Concertino consists of three movements - Introduction, Romance, and Ballet. All three movements contain a few intervals of an octave or greater. The first and second movements have cadenzas near the end. The final movement has grace notes, arpeggiated 16th notes, and a 6/8 section with constant slurred 8th notes.

*Short - Liturgical Suite

Liturgical Suite can be performed with piano or organ accompaniment. The first and third movements are model and are based on the melody of a Gregorian chant. All three movements contain similar techniques including intervals up to an octave, rhythmic complexity, and phrases spanning from the bottom of the staff to above the staff.

Smith - Fantasy for Trumpet

Fantasy for Trumpet was composed for Doc Severinson and thus contains many notes in the extreme upper register; however, this edition provides alternatives that limit the range. This solo contains many fast stepwise licks, some mixed meter, and a section of optional improvisation.
