Scarlatti - Sonata No. 17

Untitled design-87_edited.jpg

Sonata No. 17 was originally composed for keyboard and was later transcribed for trumpet and piano. It contains octave intervals, fast scale and arpeggio patterns, little rest. This is a great solo for learning some common Baroque ornaments, as there are many notated in this piece instead of improvised.

Range: A below the staff to A above the staff

Smith - Fantasy for Trumpet

Untitled design-90_edited.jpg

Fantasy for Trumpet was composed for Doc Severinson and thus contains many notes in the extreme upper register; however, this edition provides alternatives that limit the range. This solo contains many fast stepwise licks, some mixed meter, and a section of optional improvisation.

Range: Ab below the staff to C above the staff (opt. A above that)

Fantasy for Trumpet can be purchased here.
